Sketch Challenge 160

Late posting this sketch challenge as we had some crazy weather here yesterday. Schools were closed, and the internet was down all day! So I have alot of catching up to do!
The challenge was to use a flower on the side of the card, so I just so happened to receive a new stamp in the mail yesterday that was perfect! The stamp set is the "For the Record" set by October Afternoon. Gotta say that I love this set already. So very pretty! I have stamped the image 2 different ways, one is more defined and one is very muted. The sentiments are from K&Co. The heart is a chipboard heart from SU and I have painted it with a white acrylic paint, then sponged it with Close to Cocoa and then used my crackled background stamp.

Which one do you like better?

Technique Challenge

Well, today's challenge on splitcoast was to make a Dahlia Fold card. So I did. But I have to admit that I did not think it was fun at all....was definitely to much work! So here is the first and last of my Dahlia Fold cards:

The dp used for the flower is from Deja Views - The Sharon Ann Timeless Collection. The brown linen looking paper is from Paper Pizazz.

Thanks for stopping by.

Sledding!

First I would like to say thank you to RESMITH for the nice comment on my daughters card. She was excited that someone other than "mom" thought her card was nice! :)

Now, for as much as I dislike the snow when it comes to shoveling...I love the snow when it comes to sledding! Sledding is so much fun! Yesterday was the perfect day for sledding...not too cold (except maybe for you people on the western or southern side of the US!) and there were beautiful snowflakes falling! The kids in the youth group from our church all got together for a fun day...
Here are a couple of pictures:

and here are some of the kids trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues!

And the parents had just as much fun! Thanks for stopping by!

My favorite card

ok, so my daughter who has just turned 9, has made a card for me. This is her very first card and I was so excited that she wanted to give it to ME!

So my husband had to take her to the eye doctor for an exam the other day and this was the conversation between the doctor and my daughter:

Doctor: "So, do you watch alot of t.v.?"
my daugher: "No, not so much anymore, ...I'm a crafter now."

Tag - What are you doing at this moment?

Stephanie over at http://homegrownhospitality.typepad.com/homegrown_hospitality/
wants to know what everyone is doing at this moment. Well, all I can say is her fire looks pretty darn good to someone like me on the east coast! As you can see...after getting the kids on the bus this morning, this is what I did:

Shovel!

Then, I came it to work on a craft project that needs to be finished by next Friday. Our church is having a birth explosion right now. Seriously, so many of our women are having babies! So, next Friday is a another shower and this is what we are doing. Everyone that will be attending has sent me a scripture, and I am making a faithbook for Mom & baby. Now since I am not a scrapbooker, this is a challenge for me, but when they asked...how could I refuse. And I had just gotten my cd of new fonts from Stephanie, so how perfect was that for the scriptures??!!
This is just a picture of some of them...have lots to do!

And then, there is this mess to contend with. I am even embarrassed to post this...but this is life!

to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands , so that no one will malign the word of God. Titus 2:4-6

Have a great day everyone! And...what are you doing right now?

Sketch Challenge

This is for today's sketch challenge on splitcoast. I really like doing the sketch challenges, so I have done 2 for today.

Also, I just wanted to share...yesterday I read the scripture Isaiah 50:7

Because the Sovereign God helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore, I have set my face as a stone, determined to do his will. I know I will triumph.

That scripture really meant alot to me because of some trials we have been going through around here. And I do believe in my heart that we will triumph.
And, guess what? I received a call yesterday from a company I interviewed with, and they are offering me the position. Yahoo! Now we just have to find my DH a job! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Scripture Cards

I have been working on some new cards, being inspired by Lori over at http://loricraig.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/category/divine-design/

A group of stampers are going to be doing scripture cards once a month and loading them into a gallery on splitcoast. I love making scripture cards, ...I think they are my favorite things to make.
So I have decided to join in and play along. Now I just have to find that gallery! Anyway, here is my first submission that I will be uploading for the month of January:

To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven.
Eccl 3:1

The verse is supposed to be something that you are feeling that month, and I chose this one because we are definitely going through a season of trial that I do not understand. I know God has a purpose and a plan, so I have faith in his works and will wait for this season to pass.

I also had to make a birthday card for my daughter who is 23! So, I wanted to make something that I thought she might like by using the colors gray and light blue.

The paper is all from the Angel Company and it is the "Amberley Grace Collection".

Hope you like it! And thanks for stopping by!

And the winner is...

Thank you all for sharing your stories with me! All I can say is that I wish I could give all of you a love letter box because it sounds like we really need to get these men going! But, the person who I believe needs it the most is ...Linsey! Here is what Linsey wrote:

Well, I came to read some dreamy proposal stories--I know they're out there! Unfortunately, I am not able to contribute one either. Yes, I'm married to an amazing man whom I love dearly...BUT--he is the least romantic person I have ever met in my life! After living together for almost 7 years, I finally took him to a jeweler and picked out my own ring. Shortly thereafter, I told him that we were going to get married the following summer and I began planning the whole thing without much help from him. Basically, he showed up and felt that was fulfilling his duties. Oh yeah, he hated getting fitted for a tuxedo, going thru rehersals and dancing our wedding dance. Doesn't he sound like such a gem! He's all mine girls, so just forget about it! lol!
Sandra, thanks for the fun! Your blog is full of inspiration, tfs it! ~hugs~

January 14, 2008 2:17 PM

So thank you to everyone for entering! and Linsey, I hope you will get at least one good love letter out of this that you can hold on to! Please email your address to me so I can get the prize in the mail to you!

Oh, and I just have to share. The other night when I went to bed, there was a piece of chocolate on my pillow with a note that said "Sweet Dreams".

Thanks for stopping by!

The Angel Company. The dp says "Celebrate Spring" and
"Spring Fever".

Also, I am really enjoying the stories that are coming in for my giveaway! Keep them coming!

Is there no more Romance?

ok, doesn't anyone have a good proposal story? This is so sad!
Laura asked if she can comment on how she met her love, so the answer is yes!
Please, I need to hear some good stories!

Getting it in just in time!

ok, so Laura over at http://wishyouwerehere-laura.blogspot.com/ has this really fun challenge going on to alter an Altoids tin, so I just had to play. And if you have been following any of my challenges this week, you know that I was doing everything in a baby theme. So that is what I stuck with for the tin. And, I just received my cd of adorable fonts from Stephanie over at http://homegrownhospitality.typepad.com/homegrown_hospitality/ , so the font you see on the tin is her creation!! I love this cd full of fonts and words ready to print! If you do not have one, I highly recommend getting one!
So, I altered the outside and the inside of the tin as a "Mom's Survival Kit" and the contents are as follows:

A band-aid to help with all of life's hurt feelings.
An eraser- so everyone can start each day with a clean slate.
A lifesaver - for the times you need to be "Saved".
A Penny - so you will never be broke.
A Rubber Band - to remind you to be flexible.
A toothpick - to pick out the good qualities in your child.
A puzzle piece - to remind you that you are an important piece
in the journey of your child.
A tootsie roll - to remind you to roll with the punches.
A paper clip - so you can hold it all together.
A peppermint - to remind you that your job as a mom
is worth a mint!
A clothespin - because sometimes being the grownup just stinks!
Aspirin - for when all else fails, take two!

Hope you like it!

Don't forget to play in my giveaway posted below!

Here's What You Will Win!

ok, so, the game is that I am looking for proposal ideas. Just leave a comment on a proposal story, can be your own or one you have heard about. And the prize will be this altered Love Letter box!
When is the last time you wrote or received an actual love letter? I bet it has been a while! So, being the helpless romantic that I am, I want to change that. This altered Love Letter box contains 2 handmade "Love" cards, Magic Invisible Ink, Rose Colored Ink, a pen for dipping with 2 nibs, and twelve cream colored stationary sheets with envelopes.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will play...I just love hearing romantic stories!
And I have decided to draw the winner on next Saturday instead of Tuesday.

Tent Card

Today's challenge on Splitcoast was to make a tent card, so in keeping with my baby theme, here is my card:

Two for Two - Literally!

OK, I am two for two with the challenges...and now have 2 gifts for a mom having 2 babies! :)
Boy did I luck out with today's color challenge. I have to tell you that I was shakin in my boots when I logged on this morning. My challenge to myself this week is to incorporate all of the challenges that I participate in, into something for a baby shower gift that I will need on Friday. Well, we all know that some of the color challenges on Splitcoast would not be very conducive to a baby item...so all I can say is "WHEW!" Thank God!
And I think it turned out kinda cute. This is a container that I got on clearance at Borders. It was filled with a journal, a recipe folder and a sticky note pad,...all for 3 bucks! Love those deals!
Anyway, I plan on filling it with baby powder, shampoo, etc.
Thanks for stopping by!

A challenge to myself

I have to go to a baby shower on Friday and the mother to be is expecting twins. A girl and a boy!
Pretty exciting huh? So in order to help myself get some gifts together for her, I have decided to try something this week with the challenges that I participate in. I am going to try to make a little gift to give her that relates to each particular challenge. Today on splitcoast, it was to make a photo wallet... and what could possibly be a better gift to give to a woman having twins! So here is my cover for the photo wallet:

Can anyone guess what I am doing for Laura's challenge? Cannot give out any other clues because afterall, this is a competition involving great prizes! :)

Thanks for stopping by!

I've been tagged!

I know that may not be exciting for many of you, but to me it makes me feel like an official blogger now!
Laura, from http://wishyouwerehere-laura.blogspot.com/(who sometimes I think is my only visitor cause she is usually the only commenter! ) has tagged me. I am so flattered because her work is unbelievable, so I do not know what she sees in mine!

So my task is to share 7 random or weird facts about myself:

1. I have 6 children and would have had more if my husband would have agreed to it, but I just could not talk him into it! ;)
2. I love chocolate pudding when it is hot.
3. I am very quiet and shy, so my husband thinks blogging is perfect for me since I do not have to actually have a conversation with someone.
4. I was a senior information security analyst for HSBC bank, quit that job and could not find
another, so now I work part time in a jewelery store.
5. I really want to go to Italy.
6. I attend a Bible study every Tuesday night, and it is so awesome!
7. I am 43 and I really want to get my nose pierced....is that weird?

ok, here are the 7 people I am tagging! (sorry, I had to do it - your all so awesome!)

1. Rochelle at http://impressionsbyrochelle.blogspot.com/ - she has really cute and original projects on her site. Such a huge source of inspiration!
2. Debby over at http://debbyschuh.typepad.com/the_memory_bee/ - Debby is a fellow Western New Yorker and a very talented person. She teaches classes all over the place. Will definitely have to register for some of them!
3. Leslie at http://leslierich.blogs.splitcoaststampers.com/ - Check out the beautiful color combos on her cards and the great layering. Will be casing lots of her work! ;)
4. Angie at http://www.chicnscratch.typepad.com/ - Love the blog name Leslie! Need to learn how to do something? If so, she probably has a tutorial for it! Wait til you see all of the great stuff you can learn from her site! You'll be hooked just like me.
5. Michelle at http://michellerodgers.blogspot.com/ - Another great site for tutorials. Lots of new and original work!
6. Claire at http://clairedaly.typepad.com/sisterhood_of_the_travell/ - The most beautiful cards from "Down Under"! Claire...love your work!
7. And last but not least! Dini at http://mamadinis.blogspot.com/ - She makes beautiful cards and I must say that she was an inspiration to me before I started blogging. Her blog was the first blog I had ever visited! You can also have her design a really cool watermark for you! Which I will be doing!

So Laura,

Thank you again for tagging me! And for anyone reading this, make sure to check out Laura's blog because she has an awesome challenge going on! (which I am already working on!)

Love and blessings,

Sandy

New Card for my website

Well, here is a card I did this morning using one of my stamp sets from the Angel Company. About 2 years ago, I was a demonstrator for Stampin Up, which I love....but I did it as a hobbiest only (is that a word?). If you know anything about being a Stampin Up demonstrator, you know that the quota you must meet quarterly is $300. That was alot for me to do on my own without selling the product, so I made the decision to switch to the Angel Company about a year ago. I still only do it as a hobby, but the Angel Company offers a website for each demonstrator so that customers can order through the website on their own without having to go through the demonstrator directly. This has worked out very well for me because people have randomly found my website and ordered, helping me to meet my quota without doing anything! Anyway, I decided to post a link to my website on my blog if anyone was interested in seeing any of the products. No pressure though, just like to share!

Have a great Monday!

Happy Friday!

Wow, this week just flew by!

I did the limited supplies challenge this morning on Splitcoast, and I must say that I was not happy with my card. But I posted it anyway, and so many of you left such nice comments. Thank you for that.
But tonight, when I was not in such a hurry, I decided to give it another try...and I am much happier with this card, so here it is:

The heart in the middle is a chipboard heart that I inked with pretty in pink.

Hope you like it!

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! I don't know about you, but I am so happy to say goodbye to 2007.
Hoping and praying that 2008 will bring better things!

Well, here is my card for today's color challenge. It truly was a challenge for me, because I really did not want to add that darn red.

I also made some baby cards last night that I would like to share with you.

Lastly, I love this card. I could not sleep the other night and started thinking of my card stuff.
Anyway, came up with this idea of the moon and stars, and then yesterday when I was looking through my stamps, thought the little baby stamp would look so cute riding on one of the stars. So here it is, and yes, I think it is as cute as I dreamed it would be!

So that's it for now. Did anyone make a new year's resolution? I think mine will be to greatly reduce the amount of Pepsi I drink! I am going to try to have it only once a week as a treat.

Well, enjoy your day, and thanks for looking!
